Hello Floyd! We are increasingly certain that the solution to plastic is to REDUCE as much as possible, REUSE where safe and sanitary, and that recycling appears highly problematic. We are still collecting #4 & #5 plastic, although we are not certain for how much longer. We are still accepting the items below. *SPECIAL COLLECTIONS: Fabric (mostly cotton) for making reusable gift bags. We can also use narrow ribbon or cord. We can use curtains, pillowcases, tablecloths and unwanted fabric lengths. We currently have enough sheets.
New and gently used toys for toy our giveaways through local non profits and at the Dec 13th Holiday Farmers Market.
Clean/stacked plant pots, especially 1 gallon, and smaller square pots of identical size and shape which can fit into standard 10x20 trays.
FOR REUSE:
-Egg cartons
-Clean plastic grocery bags for Farmers Market shoppers (would you put your unwrapped lettuce or pastries into it?)
-Reusable tote bags—for market shoppers
-Nice fabric for sewing reusable tote bags
-Clean dry mason jars
-Local vendor containers for their reuse
-Nice clean containers for the Refillery (for bulk shampoo, soaps, lotion, etc.)
-Clean, intact, bubble wrap for reuse by Chic's Antiques and Market vendors who mail order
-Books, CDs, DVDs and video games (playable media) for Goodwill
-Pristine clean prescription bottles with lids for reuse by a Catholic medical charity
-Old towels for the Humane Society
-Cardboard 6-pack containers for Republic of Floyd
-Clear glass wine bottles for a local vintner
FOR RECYCLING:
-Plastic Film (plastic grocery bags, etc.) – We are helping a local Scout troop collect for a Trex bench, but you can always take to Food Lion, bins are right of front doors.
-#4 & #5 hard plastic
-Printer ink cartridges, laser jet cartridges
-Clean socks, unpaired, any condition
-Clean jeans, any condition
-Any brand baby clothes for recycling through Carter's & Terracycle
-Used sneakers - tennis shoes/athletic shoes ONLY tied together by shoelaces
-Rechargeable household batteries (not alkaline batteries)
-Razors, razor blades and razor blade packaging
-Burt’s Bees / Tom’s of Maine / Weleda packaging
-Writing utensils: pens, pencils, crayons, markers, glue sticks, etc.
-Guitar Strings etc for D’Addario recycle program
-Electronics (no tube style monitors or tv's, no household appliances, no light bulbs) Please take to the Transfer Station 131
