About this Event
Returning to Nature: Natural Skin Care, Oral Care & a Healthier Home
Roots for Resilience is an urban agriculture program at the Maloca Community Garden designed by and for Black and Brown youth in Toronto.
For this workshop, we invite you to learn ancient african costemic practices to create your own natural skin care and oral care products.
Have you ever looked at the ingredients in your everyday products and wondered what they actually are?
Join us for a hands-on, 3-hour workshop where we’ll reconnect with ancestral wellness practices and discover simple, natural ways to care for our bodies and our homes.
Together, we’ll explore how traditional ingredients have been used for generations and how they can become part of a modern, intentional lifestyle.
During this workshop, we’ll make our own:
• All-natural mouthwash
• Nourishing hair conditioner
• DIY face mask
We’ll also explore natural ingredients such as castor oil, cloves, lemon, honey, aloe vera, baking soda, and more, learning their traditional uses, how to use them safely, and how they can support everyday skin care, oral care, and self-care.
You’ll learn:
• How to read cosmetic and household product labels with confidence.
• About common ingredients found in many skin care, cosmetic, and cleaning products. • Simple DIY recipes for natural body care and household cleaning.
• Practical ways to reduce your reliance on heavily processed products.
• How to build an affordable, natural wellness routine using ingredients you may already have at home.
Whether you’re just beginning your natural wellness journey or looking to deepen your knowledge, this class is for anyone interested in ancestral wisdom, sustainable living, and making more informed choices for themselves and their families.
You’ll leave with your handmade products, easy-to-follow recipes, practical knowledge, and the confidence to start incorporating more natural, time-honored practices into your daily life.

An introduction from Muna:
My name is Muna Elbadri, and I have a lifelong passion for natural health, ancestral wellness, and holistic living. Growing up in a Sudanese family, I was introduced to the healing power of herbs, natural foods, and traditional remedies by my grandmother. Those early lessons sparked a curiosity that has stayed with me throughout my life.
In 2021, I co-founded Esra’s Market, an organic juice bar and wellness space in downtown Toronto, where I spent several years educating the community about nutrition, herbs, natural living, and the connection between food and overall well-being. Through workshops and community events, I’ve had the privilege of sharing practical wellness knowledge with people from all walks of life. Today, I continue to deepen my knowledge through the study of herbal medicine, nutrition, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and holistic health. My approach blends ancestral wisdom with modern research, encouraging people to make informed, sustainable choices that support long-term health.
My goal is simple: to help people reconnect with nature, understand the products they use every day, and feel empowered to create healthier habits using simple, accessible ingredients.
