In February 1920, the women of Ulster, PA gathered at the Chaffee home to start a study club for intellectual discussion and the sharing of knowledge. The group accepted books in lieu of dues, and this collection became the foundation of the Mather Memorial Library. 106 years later, the Mather Memorial Library is bringing the Ulster Study Club back!Lifelong learners of all ages are welcome to the first meeting of the revived Ulster Study Club! You do not need to live in Ulster to attend. You just need to be a little curious.
Been down the internet research rabbit hole lately? Stumble upon a few fun facts? Have a topic you love to talk about?
Pull up a chair and join the conversation!
In the spirit of the original Ulster Study Club, each month, one member will guide us through a topic they care about, with discussion to follow. We’ll also leave time for others to share interesting things they’ve been learning.
At our first meeting we will hear from Interim Library Director and past library board president Basil E. Bacorn about the history of the Ulster Study Club and the Mather Memorial Library.
