Join us for our October Retrofit Society 2.0 quarterly meeting with a focus on the changing UK context and what can we learn from Europe.

This forum is designed to break siloes and make your ambitious projects happen. With significant policy change expected over the coming year, this quarter’s session will explore how the UK retrofit landscape is evolving, what housing providers need to prepare for, and what lessons can be learnt from large-scale retrofit programmes across Europe.

Expect thought-provoking discussion, expert insights, and peer learning, all wrapped into a dynamic, one-day in-person session.

10:30 – 11:30 Policy, funding and the changing landscape

The policy landscape for retrofit is evolving rapidly. This panel will explore what we’re hearing from inside government, how funding routes are becoming increasingly regional, and what the shift towards devolved funding means in practice. We’ll discuss what housing providers can learn from leading combined authorities and how organisations should start thinking differently about securing funding in an increasingly varied policy environment.

11:30 – 12:15 What Europe has learnt about scaling retrofit programmes

While the UK continues to grapple with scaling retrofit, many European countries are several years ahead. Drawing on Horizon projects, European policy and the latest academic research, this session will explore what has enabled retrofit programmes to move beyond pilots and what practical lessons UK organisations can take from international experience.

13:00 – 13:45 Case study from Europe: industrialised retrofit in Germany

Germany is delivering industrialised retrofit at a scale the UK is only beginning to aspire to. Fresh from the German Energiesprong Convention and the Circular Reno programme, John Warren will share the latest developments, practical case studies and emerging thinking from across Europe, highlighting the innovations and approaches that could help accelerate retrofit in the UK.

14:00 – 15:00 What are the next steps for your success?

In this roundtable discussion, we will discuss the biggest challenges members face in delivering large-scale retrofit. Together, we’ll explore how the Society and fellow landlords can support you in 2027 to drive collective progress.
