Spaceballs (1987), directed by Mel Brooks, is a sci-fi comedy parody starring Bill Pullman as Lone Starr, a roguish hero, and John Candy as Barf, his half-man, half-dog sidekick. Together, they attempt to rescue Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga) from the evil Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis), who is plotting to steal her planet’s air supply. Featuring hilarious spoofs of Star Wars, Star Trek, and other sci-fi classics, the film combines slapstick, wordplay, and outrageous characters, including the wise Yogurt (Mel Brooks) and the miniature army of Spaceballs troops. Although it did not win major Academy Awards, Spaceballs has become a cult classic, celebrated for its clever satire, zany humor, and enduring influence on parody filmmaking.
