Come and join Cat McGill for the culmination of her Artist Residency with Appetite and explore the Ticking Clock sound installation. Cat’s residency - titled ‘Restricted and Repetitive’ explored the idea of autistic stimming, and its relevance in her musical practice, in particular demonstrating how it can bring a lot of joy and satisfaction; Cat has created her ’Ticking Clock’ installation piece as a real-world representation of what it’s like inside her brain when a sound takes hold.
Ticking Clock is an interactive piece and is designed to be played with - you can move the clock hands, turn layers of sound on and off, and touch the tactile patterns on the clock body to create little musical pieces of your own. Cat says “I find music and sound a really all-encompassing experience so I wanted to recreate that with the piece. I want people to have fun exploring it, to find sounds they like, and sounds that make their brain itch. If people walk away afterwards feeling a bit dazed and confused that’s exactly the effect I’m after!”
The Ticking Clock will be in the Sculpture Gallery at the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery from Friday 28th Feb to Sunday 2nd March, as part of Frontline Arts Festival. Cat will be speaking at the FAF conference on the Friday as part of a panel of disabled artists, and will be taking part in two ‘Meet the Artist’ sessions on Friday lunchtime and on Sunday (time tbc). The clock will be in place all weekend for people to visit and interact with.
