When native plantings fail, the culprit is often the soil. While native plants are adapted to soils that developed naturally over millennia, most of us garden in spaces that were first plowed for agriculture and then bulldozed for housing development, radically changing soil conditions in the process. In this class, you’ll learn how soils develop naturally, how they’ve been altered in the modern world, and how you can rebuild and restore the soils in your garden to allow native plants to thrive.
Join live to participate in our online learning community or watch after as your schedule allows. All registrants will receive a recording of the class with access to view the class for 30 days after the live session.

About the Instructor:
Joseph Tychonievich is a life-long lover of plants and gardening. He got his degree in horticulture from Ohio State University and went on to work for specialty rare plant nurseries in Japan and Michigan. Joseph is the author of several books including The Comic Book Guide to Growing Food: Step-by-Step Vegetable Gardening for Everyone and his writing has been published in Fine Gardening, Horticulture, and The New York Times. Joseph has a special love for hepaticas, and plans trips every spring to see them flowering in the wild.
