About this Event

Resource Saturday 28th February 2026, 11am - 4pm

Resource Saturday in February will be led by Anna Kushnerova, Troy Vine and Alasdair Gordon. Anna will explore metamorphosis, memory and instinct through a screening of her recent film To Die into a Bird, and delve into her multimodal practice, across film, movement, and material installation. Troy and Alasdair will be leading exploratory presentations into the scientific practice of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and his holistic conceptions of colour, illustrating the potential of holistic science for integrating scientific and artistic practice.

Speakers:

Anna Kushnerova: Anna Kushnerova is a film director, video artist, and multimodal practitioner working across film, movement, and material installation. Her practice draws from Butoh and somatic lineages to enter the body’s deep reservoirs of instinct, metamorphosis, and memory, exploring becoming-animal, becoming-plant, and becoming-spirit through subtle states of perception and corporeal imagination.

Her films emerge through co-presence with environment and texture, allowing body, landscape, and moment to shape the unfolding. Performances move between instinct, ceremony, and play, where the body becomes vessel, amplifier, and offering. With a background in ceramics and textiles, she creates masks, garments, and sculptural set-objects that activate transitional states of being and the body as a site of transformation.

Rooted in eco-somatic and deep ecological inquiry, her work understands matter as sentient and dreaming. Through Human Clay CIC, she develops cross-disciplinary encounters grounded in ecological intimacy, collective imagination, and embodied transformation.

Alasdair Gordon: After studying Art and Design in Social Context at Dartington School of Arts, Alasdair was drawn to teaching. For over thirty years, Alasdair’s educational focus has been on developing embodied learning experiences grounded in healthy social practice. For ten years he directed the Waldorf College, a pioneering sixth form college in Stroud that successfully developed a viable route to further education with a project-based alternative to standard examinations. Since leaving full-time teaching to become an educational consultant he developed Goethe’s morphology into a reflective method for teaching and curriculum development, which became the focus of his MSc dissertation. He recently moved to South Devon to set up an educational project based on Goethe’s approach to science.

Troy Vine: After gaining a doctorate in particle physics from University College London, Troy became interested in Goethe’s theory of colour. Studying with leading authorities on the topic, he has published extensively on Goethe’s colour science, both as writer and as editor. His collaboration with artist Nora Löbe and physicist Matthias Rang, Seeing Colour: A Journey Through Goethe’s World of Colour, was published by Floris Books in 2022. Troy is in the final stages of a second doctorate, this time in philosophy, at the Humboldt University of Berlin, with a thesis focusing on the history and philosophy of Goethe’s colour science. Troy has taught Goethean colour science and the history and philosophy of holistic science more generally for over two decades, including at Schumacher College, where he was programme lead for MSc Holistic Science. Troy has recently drawn on this experience to design a MA programme in Transformative Learning for the Ruskin Mill Centre of Practice, that will begin this coming autumn.

A Bit About Our Ecology as Method Studio Programme and Resource Saturdays:

Until March, Ecology as Method will form the seedbed of Radical Ecology activity at the studio in Dartington. Exploring Ecology as a way of seeing ourselves and our connection to one another and to the world, and Method of creativity through which we can constellate meaning and cultivate newness in the world. The Ecology as Method programme will share some of our learning around the ways of approaching our creative lives, and build questions of how we resource ourselves in the context of this crisis ridden decade.

As part of this, once a month, we open our studio doors to create a space where our community can share work. We’ll be bringing together guest speakers whose own practices shed light and inspire action and learning around questions of what ecology as method is in practice.
