About this Event
Working with resin is amazing and the possibilities are endless - really!
Welcome to the wonderful world of resin and glass! Let your creativity run wild as you mix, pour and design your own decorative 10"x10" shattered glass platter. You can also choose 4 "legs" for each corner so that your platter can be off the table as a display when it's finished.
There is a dazzling variety of wonderful treasures and decorative embellishments for you to choose from to create your masterpiece such as feathers, stones, shattered glass, keys, beads, glitter, shells, buttons, glass gems, glass gravel, jewelry bits & baubles, lace, ribbons, phrases & written words, pressed flowers, wheat, wood phrases & shapes and more.
If you wish to bring some special items with you that you want to use in your design, please do so and we'll see how we can make that happen as not all pieces are ideal with this technique. Flatter pieces adhere to the resin much better as we are working on the reverse side of the plate. Things like photos, sentimental jewelry, hankies, lock of hair (yep!), old coins, seashells & sand, have all been successfully encased in resin and have made amazing keepsake platters!
Your Creative Coach BerylAnne will provide you with a quick demonstration and give directions on how to prep and mix resin as well as add pigments & mica powder if you decide to use colours on your platter. There will be heat guns and also fire torches provided for you to use during the workshop.
For those who say they aren't "crafty" or who are unsure or undecided, there will be lots of photos for inspiration and tons of ideas on how to visualize your finished platter.
No experience required but recommend ages 14+
All supplies are included (remember that you can bring items from home). There are prepackaged snacks like chocolate bars & chips provided as well as coffee, tea, pop & water but you can bring your own snacks and drinks if you want something special.
The Studio is in my lower level so you need to be able to go up and down a full flight of stairs independently (there's a sturdy railing for stability). Bring slippers or indoor shoes for your own comfort and dress in older clothing as resin doesn't come out of clothing; I provide aprons and gloves.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Resin requires time to cure, so you will NOT be able to take your project home with you directly after the class but your piece can be stored safely here until it's convenient for you to arrange for pick up.
Registration: Preferred registration by e-transfer to [email protected] and you will be issued a receipt upon paying; you can also use our online registration Eventbrite.
