About this Event
This Trauma Awareness Month Kickoff Event will explore the critical connection between trauma and substance use, highlight evidence-based best practices, and promote trauma-informed solutions across systems of care.
The event will bring together public agencies, healthcare professionals, educators, and community members—including individuals with lived experience of opioid use disorder—to foster shared understanding and strengthen cross-sector collaboration. Through engaging discussions and expert insights, participants will deepen their knowledge of trauma’s impact while identifying practical, trauma-informed strategies to support individuals, families, and communities.
A special closed session, facilitated by Peggy Geiser of PMG Consulting, will be offered for individuals with lived experience to explore practice and policy advancements in a supportive and focused environment.
This event is co-sponsored by the Wilmington University Center for Law, Justice, and Society and supported by valued community partners, including Attack Addiction, Delaware Department of Education, Sussex County Health Coalition, Friendship House, and Abundant Action.
The program will also feature the presentation of the Compassionate Champion Award and the Rita Landgraf Legacy Award, recognizing outstanding leadership and commitment to trauma-informed care.
