A timely discussion on how staying active, connected and purposeful can support a fulfilling later life, while challenging traditional perceptions of ageing. This event is designed to spark conversation around what it means to age well in today’s world.
We are honoured to welcome 2026 Senior Australian of the Year - Professor Henry Brodaty AO, a globally recognised leader in brain health and dementia research. His groundbreaking work continues to transform how dementia is understood, diagnosed and treated - improving outcomes for individuals, families and communities across Australia and beyond.
Joining Professor Brodaty are SA’s 2026 Senior Australians of the Year:
- Malcolm Benoy (‘Mac’) - 2026 SA Senior Australian of the Year
A dedicated volunteer citizen scientist, Mac has made a significant contribution to climate research through the preservation of long-term meteorological records, helping deepen understanding of South Australia’s environmental history.
- James Currie, 2026 SA Senior Australian of the Year
With a remarkable career spanning five decades, James has contributed to some of Australia’s most iconic films, including Breaker Morant, The Lighthorsemen, Bad Boy Bubby, The Tracker, Wolf Creek, Ten Canoes, Red Dog, and the AACTA Award-winning documentary My Name is Gulpilil.
Together, these voices offer powerful insight into how cognitive and physical engagement, social connection and active citizenship can help shape more positive experiences of ageing.
We acknowledge the invaluable assistance from the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council and support from the Government of South Australia. We also thank Lutheran Homes Group and COTA SA for their contribution to this event.
