Renate Yarborough Sanders explores effective strategies for researching ancestors of color, including formerly enslaved individuals and free people of color. Participants will learn about key record types and resources that support this work, as well as practical methods for extracting genealogically relevant information about people of color from a wide range of historical documents.This event will take place in the Council Chambers at The Clayton Center. Doors will open at 10:30 am.
Renate Yarborough Sanders is an experienced genealogist and educator who descends from North Carolinians who were formerly enslaved, enslavers, and free people of color. She is the author of two genealogy blogs and the creator of a funeral program database. Renate is an active member of numerous genealogical and historical organizations and co-hosts the online platform Let’s Talk About North Carolina Genealogy.
