Republic Services Compost Workshop

Republic Services is hosting our first Citrus Heights compost workshop of 2026. In our workshop, you'll hear from a compost expert on the foundations of compost, how to use it in your garden, how to create and maintain a backyard compost station, and how the material in your organics bin becomes industrial compost.

Our workshop will be hosted by Republic Services and Patrick Rodysill. Patrick is a permaculture-certified garden designer, educator, and sustainability leader with over 35 years of hands-on experience in regenerative land stewardship. As the owner of a garden design and land management company, he specializes in edible landscaping and ecological design, creating productive, resilient landscapes that integrate beauty with function. He has presented on edible landscaping and growing food at the Wild & Scenic Film Festival in Nevada City and served as an Edible Garden Designer at the San Francisco Flower & Garden Show. As part of the team that developed the Sustainability Center in Nevada City, he helped establish community-based models for environmental education and sustainable living. Earlier in his career, he owned and operated a small CSA farm that provided fresh food for 75 members, grounding his design work in practical agricultural experience. He also manages a small compost production site and has designed and taught numerous composting and food-growing classes throughout Northern California, offering clear, solution-oriented guidance to gardeners and land stewards of all levels. With more than three decades of experience, he is dedicated to helping communities grow food, build healthy soil, and cultivate resilient, sustainable futures.

Must be a Citrus Heights resident to register and attend. Free compost will be available on site. Bring your own containers and shovels/tools to take compost home.
