About this Event

In the context of a rapidly changing climate, policymakers acknowledge that climate-related events disrupt the reproductive trajectories of vulnerable communities exposed to environmental change. For example, consistent epidemiological evidence shows a correlation between increased temperature, miscarriages, and stillbirths while adverse weather events are linked to forced displacement and gender-based violence. Yet, global health interventions mostly rely on a problematic population control approach, focusing on access to contraception and abortion in climate-vulnerable regions as key policy solutions. At the same time, the broader implications of climate change for the reproductive experiences of communities inhabiting areas of environmental vulnerability and, particularly, for the collective rights of having children, not having children and parenting children with dignity, are under-researched. We invite researchers, practitioners, and grassroots organisations to take part in a hybrid workshop aimed at exploring the intersection between climate and reproductive violence across different regional contexts. The workshop is a space to share research findings, fieldwork experiences, and ideas, and to build connections across disciplines and regions to centre reproductive justice in climate action.
