REPAIR & MEND WORKSHOP SERIES
Join Liberty from ReMode to learn the visible mending technique Sashiko stitching and put it into practice on your clothing that needs some TLC. Mending materials and equipment provided but please bring your own clothing or fabric items to mend.
Thursday 7th November - Sashiko stitching
Sashiko stitching is a visible mending technique that originated from Japan. It is a relaxing way to patch and weave materials back together so that they won’t fall apart again. Bring your damaged denims or pieces to patch, or use our donated stock to practice these stitch techniques. All threads, embroidery hoops and guidance are provided.
This workshop is suitable for a beginner with no experience, and will teach basic Boro & Sashiko techniques
Thursday 14th November - Mending
Bring along your broken clothes and ones that just don’t fit right and breathe new life into them. Though working on your own clothes you will learn how to take up hems, put in zips and sew on buttons. Or continue from the week before mending holes using the sashiko technique.
Booking: Book on Eventbrite. Contact [email protected] to find out more or book a Welcome Meeting with a member of the team.
Food & drinks: We have snacks & hot drinks available for free, including herbal teas, vegan and gluten-free options. Please speak to a staff member if you are peckish, we always have sandwich ingredients in.
Pantry & Free Shop: In our corridor, grab something from the free shop – clothes, toiletries, household items. Or why not see what you can find in the pantry? Lots of items to fill your cupboards.
Children: This group isn’t suitable for children. You are welcome to bring children to the Creative Cafe, Community Soup or Walking & Wheeling groups. All children must be supervised by a parent/caregiver. We have a designated kids’ corner in the pink room.
Transport: We are a 12-minute walk from Paisley Gilmour Station and the main bus routes. There is a large car park in front of the building. We will need your registration number on arrival when you sign in for free parking.
Note on the space: We are based in the Embroidery Mill, directly across from Morrisons car park. We are not in Mile End Mill, the building with a tall tower up the road.
Accessibility information: Our space is on the ground floor and is wheelchair accessible with an accessible bathroom. Go to our Accessibility & Inclusion page for more information. We will be taking a short walk from our space during one or two workshops to photograph some nature, but we will ensure any outside working is accessible to all in the group.
Sensory information: We use lamps in our spaces to reduce sensory overwhelm and fidget toys are available.
*this is a women+ only workshop, inclusive of trans women and non-binary people
