Rent is a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning rock musical by Jonathan Larson. Loosely based on the 1896 opera La Bohème, it followsa diverse group of impoverished, bohemian artists struggling to survive, create, and find love in New York City’s East Village during the height of the 1980s and 1990s HIV/AIDS crisis.
