Tree of Heaven (Ailanthus altissima), also known as stinking sumac, Chinese sumac, and other names, is a widespread invasive species across North America. It spreads aggressively, crowds out and poisons native plants, and is also the preferred food source for the spotted lanternfly.
Trying to control or eliminate Tree of Heaven is extremely difficult - the appropriately timed application of herbicide and persistent follow up treatment are necessary.
Unfortunately the grounds at Reboot Eco have become overrun by this problematic tree over the last couple of years. Our dear friend Jen Huddleston has offered to come help us with the initial treatment of the trees surrounding the shop. And because I know how many members of our community are also struggling with this issue, we are making it a workshop so you can come learn too! Jen will demonstrate the strategic application of herbicide to the established trees, and there will be opportunities for folks to try it out themselves.
