HONOUR BEFORE GLORY: The Canadian Tour
Anthony Sherwood Films (ASF) is an award-winning production company specializing in films about the African-Canadian experience and history in Canada. One of these films is “Honour Before Glory”, which is the story of the No. 2 Construction Battalion, Canada’s all-Black battalion formed during the First World War.
Honour Before Glory is
based on the war diary of William Andrew White who was the chaplain for the battalion and the great-uncle to Anthony Sherwood. Reverend William White was the only Black
chaplain in the entire British Armed Forces during the First World War. The film has won a Gemini Award, a Hollywood Black Film Festival Award and the Founder’s Award at the Barbados Film Festival.
On July 9, 2022, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau delivered an
official apology to the Black soldiers of the No. 2 Construction Battalion and to their descendants. Anthony Sherwood served as the Master of Ceremonies for the event which was the first apology given by the Federal Government to the Black community of Canada. Anthony Sherwood will be present at each film screening to give his personal perspective of the story. The film is 67 minutes in length and a Q&A will follow the film screening.
ASF is currently conducting a tour of “Honour Before Glory” across Canada. The tour is being sponsored by Veterans Affairs Canada. Please contact us if you wish to have the
film presented in your community.
