"Remembering Maui Sara", is a life celebration for recently departed, and beloved long time Lahaina Maui resident, Sara Gadarian. The service will include selections from Sara's "Jazz Ladies", light pupus, memorial tributes and will conclude with a music set, featuring members of the original “Jazz at Blackie’s” band. The memorial celebration will be held at the Altitude Deck at the Kihei Charter school, 650 Lipoa Pkwy, on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, from 5-8 pm. Requested colors - Orange of course!
From 1981 to 1995, Sara and Blackie Gadarian ran Blackie‘s Bar in Lahaina, the longest running jazz club in the Pacific. Blackie’s Bar was known for presenting quality jazz four evenings a week from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A resident trio, quartet or quintet was the regular band, supplemented by performances by internationally known jazz musicians who would appear with the group, or “sit in”. In 2013, Sara formed MauiSaraJazz.com. She went to Jazz venues and events to seek, meet & greet jazz musicians. Sara sponsored live jazz events on Maui and was committed to enjoying, promoting and educating people on Jazz music and history. Sara was also a member of the Maui Wedding Association, involved in numerous organizations and was an honorary member of the Lahaina Yacht Club.
This service is free and open to anyone with connections to Maui Sara. Presented by Arts Education for Children Group/Jazz Maui
and Sara’s community of loving friends and Ohana.
