[1]Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
[2]Praise the Lord, my soul,
and forget not all his benefits.
Our soul have the tendency to forget. Our soul want to focus on what is wrong.
But our spirit knows that there is something mall powerful than our problems. Something that can shift the entire atmosphere of our life. David understood this battle. He knew that praise doesn't come naturally especially when life is hard. He began to talk to Himself. He commanded his soul to remember, to bless,to praise. . This isn't a suggestion. This is not a request. Why does David need to command his soul. Our soul get distracted by circumstances , discourage by delays and defeated by difficulties. Our souls focus on what it can see. Instead of what the Lord has done. Our souls is incredibly powerful but it is also incredibly forgetful. Our souls can replay every hurtful word someone spoke to us,but it forget the promise God has whispered to your heart. This is why we need to take authority over our souls .David is reminding his soul who God is and who He is in relationship to God. And then He said ,all that is within me. Bless his holy name. All that is within us. Our mind,our will,our emotions,our memories,our hope,our dreams,our fears and doubt. Everything within us need to participate in this act of worship.
Forget not all his benefits; don't let your soul forget what God has for you personally.
Don't let your emotions erase the evidence of the Lord goodness. Don't let your circumstances overshadow His faithfulness.Count them
Make your own lists of the Lord benefits in your life.
The prayers he has answered. The doors he opened for you.
Your soul needs to hear this things. Your soul needs to be commanded to focus on these benefits instead of dwelling on what's wrong.
I have learned that when you command your soul to praise, something shift in your spirit. The problem don't disappear but they lose their power to control your emotions. The circumstances don't change,but your perspective changes. The challenges don't go away,but your capacity to handle the challenges increase. When you bless the Lord with your soul,you are inviting his presence into your situation. I want you to understand that your soul response to authority. When you speak with conviction.
May the Lord help us to be intentional about praise. Amen.
