About this Event

is the local chapter of the Society for Experiential Graphic Design, a professional organization for people who design the spaces, signage, and environments that shape how we move through and experience the built world. A few times a year, we get behind-the-scenes access to spaces most people never see, led by the designers who made them. This is one of those.

is the innovation and research arm of a large family-owned food distributor. When the company moved into a new office at 1 N Dearborn, they asked the design firm to build a space that could hold two identities at once: the scrappy startup and the more established company it's since become. IA's answer was to build the whole environment out of food. Everyday items like spatulas, trays, and utensils are reinterpreted as graphics and sculpture throughout the space.

The project won an , one of the most competitive recognitions in the experiential design industry.

We're touring it with the people who designed it: Chad Finken (Creative Director), Lila Marty (Senior Experiential Graphic Designer), and Shane Smith (Associate Experiential Graphic Designer).

A guided, one-hour walkthrough of a working office space, led by its designers
Direct Q&A with the team behind the project
A firsthand look at how a design team translates brand identity into physical space

Doors at 5:15 PM, tour runs 5:30–6:30 PM
1 N Dearborn St, Chicago, IL 60602. Enter through the main doors and look for SEGD signage.
$5 for SEGD members and students, $10 for non-members. Fee covers admission only; no food or drink is provided.
This is a working office, so space is limited to 32 attendees. Registration closes September 9, 2026, as we submit a final list to building security. If you can't make it, please cancel by September 7 so someone on the waitlist can take your spot.
Optional: co-chairs are heading to a nearby bar after the tour. Everyone is welcome to join.

Never been to an SEGD Chicago event before? This is a good one to start with. You'll meet other designers, see real work up close, and get a sense of what the chapter does the other 51 weeks of the year.
