After three years of war, Sudan is facing the worst humanitarian crisis in modern history, which has already claimed tens of thousands of lives and displaced nearly 13 million people. As the fighting intensifies, the impact on women and girls is even worst: gender-based violence has now become a weapon of war.
A CBC News investigation released on November 7 showed Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fighters carrying firearms manufactured by a Canadian company, thereby exposing our own complicity in this proxy war, which continues to be fueled by economic and geostrategic interests.
In the face of the international community’s inaction, Sudanese civil society—both within the country and in the diaspora—continues to keep the spirit of the revolution alive, to voice its opposition to war, and to organize in support of the country’s reconstruction.
So how should we think about our solidarity with the Sudanese people today? And what are the prospects for peace in Sudan today?
