Reimagining Feminism from Latin America is a four-part talk series that brings together feminist scholars, activists, and legal practitioners from Mexico and Argentina to explore decolonial feminist perspectives rooted in the Global South. The series addresses urgent issues such as gender-based violence, discrimination, and inequality, while highlighting the creativity, resilience, and political power of Latin American feminist movements.

Info: This subject explores how feminist and queer activism in Mexico City has sought to rethink the language, identities, and political frameworks used to describe sapphic and dyke communities, especially those affected by the stigma attached to the term lencha. It focuses on how naming practices shape political belonging, how alternative forms of organizing have emerged in tension with more mainstream LGBT+ and feminist spaces, and what these experiences reveal about solidarity, resistance, and collective action.

Info: This subject examines how feminist movements in Mexico, especially in the context of Ni Una Menos, have exposed the structural nature of femicide and challenged the impunity surrounding gender-based killings. It looks at the interaction between social mobilization, constitutional law, and strategic litigation, with particular attention to landmark Mexican Supreme Court cases that have shaped legal standards on gender perspective, due diligence, and state responsibility in the investigation and punishment of violence against women.

Info: This subject focuses on the M**der of Paola Buenrostro and the legal and institutional failures that followed, highlighting the discrimination faced by trans women in the criminal justice system. Through the constitutional and human rights litigation promoted by activist Kenya Cuevas, it explores the struggle for recognition, reparation, and accountability, as well as the broader significance of the case in exposing structural transphobia and contributing to legal reforms that recognize transfeminicide as a specific criminal offense.

Info: This subject considers the recognition of care as an autonomous human right within the Inter-American human rights system, particularly in light of Advisory Opinion 31/2025 of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. It addresses the meaning of care in its different dimensions, the responsibilities of the state and society in guaranteeing it, and the broader constitutional implications of bringing care into legal reasoning, especially as a challenge to traditional assumptions about the public-private divide, gender roles, and the structure of rights in Latin American constitutionalism.
