Course Title: Reiki Level 1: Practitioner's Initiation (Shoden)

Course Description: This course is the foundational step on the path of Reiki, a gentle and powerful hands-on healing technique. Known as "Shoden," which means "first teachings" in Japanese, this level focuses on opening the energy channels in the body. Students will learn the history of Reiki, its core principles, and how to perform healing sessions for themselves, family, friends, and pets. The certification culminates in a series of attunements that connect the student to the universal life force energy.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Understand the history, principles, and ethics of Reiki.
• Perform a complete Reiki self-treatment session.
• Administer a basic Reiki treatment to others (e.g., friends, family, pets).
• Create a sacred space for healing work.
• Understand the importance of the 21-day self-healing integration period.

Module 1: The World of Reiki - History & Principles

• What is Reiki? Understanding Universal Life Force Energy.
• The History of Reiki: Dr. Mikao Usui's journey and the system's evolution.
• The Five Reiki Principles (Gokai): Living a balanced life.
• How Reiki works and its benefits for physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
• Debunking common myths about Reiki.

Module 2: The Sacred Attunement

• Understanding the Reiki Attunement process: What it is and how it works.
• Preparation for the attunement ceremony.
• The Reiki Level 1 Attunement: The sacred ritual of opening the student's channels to the Reiki energy.
• Post-attunement experience and initial sensations.

Module 3: The Art of Self-Healing

• The importance of self-treatment as a daily practice.
• Demonstration and Practice: Standard hand positions for a full-body self-treatment, from head to toe.
• Techniques for quick self-healing in moments of stress or pain.
• Journaling your self-healing journey.

Module 4: Sharing Reiki with Others

• Guidelines for treating friends, family, and pets. (Professional treatment for payment is taught in Level 2).
• Demonstration and Practice: Hand positions for treating another person seated in a chair.
• Giving Reiki to animals and plants.

Module 5: Practical Application & Professional Ethics

• Creating a calming and sacred healing environment.
• How to prepare yourself and the recipient before a session.
• Closing a session and grounding the recipient.
• Ethical considerations: scope of practice, confidentiality, and when to refer to a medical professional.

Module 6: Integration and Moving Forward

• The 21-Day Integration Period: Understanding the self-cleansing process that follows the attunement.
• Tips for navigating the integration period with mindfulness.
• Joining a Reiki community: The value of Reiki shares and continued practice.
• Next Steps: Path to Reiki Level 2 (Okuden).
