About this Event
Ocean Hour Farm is a center for education, research, and demonstration of regenerative agricultural practices, highlighting the critical connection between land and ocean health.
The guided tour will take visitors around the active farm and historic property, showcasing our sustainable agriculture and regenerative land care practices. Our integrated system features local plants, livestock, and people working together to sequester carbon, clean stormwater, build soil, and produce food and fiber.
80% of ocean pollution comes from land. Whether we're trying to make our lawns green or our gardens pest-free, chemical fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides run off into our storm drains, creeks and bays, eventually making their way into the ocean. This creates persistent problems like red tides, beach closures, and stinky seas.
We want to rewrite this story, and we need you.
Each visitor will learn how to make choices about their lawns and gardens that build healthy soils, which in turn lead to healthy seas.
Tour Highlights Include:
- Viewing our rain garden installation and learning about its environmental benefits to slow and clean water before it reaches the ocean.
- Engage with our biodiversity landscaping and learn how plant diversity fosters wildlife and enhances resilience.
- Check out our diversity of chicken breeds and learn about the deep litter system installed in their hennery.
- Visit our barn and pastures to learn how our cows, sheep, and pigs steward the land and build healthy soil.
- Learn about our food forest, habitat buffers, windbreaks, biointensive agriculture, and more!
This tour is recommended for:
- Anyone interested in caring for their lawn or garden in a way that will support ocean health.
- People interested in learning about permaculture design.
- Those concerned about how to care for and live on the land!
We will be outside the entire time, walking approximately 3 miles round trip on uneven surfaces and through tall grass. Ocean Hour Farm has electric fences, ponds, wildlife, and livestock that cannot be pet.
