Have you ever stood on Cape Cornwall and seen the Scilly Isles onthe far horizon? Or watched the bands of choughs on Zennor
Head, surfing the wind for the joy of it and making their distinctive
call? The Environment and Public Affairs Sub-committee, in
partnership with the Climate Ambassadors, have organised a walk
to take place on Thursday 14 May 2026 at Higher Keigwin Farm,
Morvah in the heart of West Penwith. Lisa Guy has been farming
sustainably there for over 25 years, breeding cattle for organic
beef and coppicing willow, hazel and chestnut trees.
The walk is quite strenuous, starting with a climb up to the moors
around Chun Castle, with amazing views across the West Penwith
peninsular. There is then a gradual descent through the farm fields
and coppice to the valley wetland, home to a surviving temperate
rainforest and thriving populations of reptiles and amphibians.
Stout boots are essential.
We will meet in the big barn at 10am for coffee and cake and set
off at around 10.30 to tour the farm for a couple of hours. We will
then return to the barn for a picnic lunch (please bring your own),
followed by a talk by Jon Brookes, Chair of Zennor Parish Council,
on the successful campaign to designate West Penwith as an
International Dark Sky Park.
Cost:£12
Closing Date:Monday 6 April 2026
