Come join the Washington Regency Society for a night of cards and games as we try to recreate the feeling of an early 19th Century tavern.

Saturday Evening September 26, 2026 5-9 PM
Stroll before along the lakeside at 4:30
In the Regency, taverns and inns began to offer more than a mere room for meetings, drinking, and dining. Leisure activities for the community began to be offered: cards and games, music and dance assemblies (like those in Meryton and Highbury in Jane Austen’s novels), plays, and sports, were as common as food and ale.

We will meet on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 5 p.m. in the evening, at the Pioneer Hall in Seattle’s Madison Park neighborhood. (1642 43rd Ave E, Seattle, WA 98112) The hall is rustic in feeling with wooden floors and a large stone fireplace. Although not as old as the Regency, it is historic. The Pioneer Association of the State of Washington owns the building and is our host for this evening.
The building was erected in 1910 on the western shore of Lake Washington. A lakeshore walk before the event might be fun for some. Those interested in this can meet just north of Pioneer Hall at the beach for photos and a promenade back to the hall in our Regency finery.
WRS volunteers will be organizing a tavern style meal (meats, cheeses, breads, a hot dish and a soup.) Tara Walmsley will be providing some of her elegant desserts. Of course, there will be tea and coffee available, and alcohol (in moderation) will be allowed, but will not be provided. (i.e. BYOB)
Multiple Regency themed board games and playing cards will be available for all to enjoy. If you are interested in playing a specific game or starting a table for whist, please let us know. We will also be looking for a dealer to run a game of Speculation or a game of Lottery. We will not be betting (with real money) on this occasion as that would require a special license.
There is space in the hall for an impromptu country dance - 4 or 6 couples would be accommodated easily. - we will not have a live band but will be prepared with recorded music if the will to dance is there.
Tickets for the event are $40 each for non-members and $30 for members of WRS. (A maximum of 2 member price tickets per membership)..
Tickets are on sale now - Get your tickets today - here is a link to the ticket sales page

We have to limit attendance to 50 people.
September 26. 2026 - We will begin setting up starting at 4 - those interested may choose to go walk to the beach around 4:30. The event doors will open at 5 and dinner will be served about 6 pm. Games and other activities will wrap up at 9 pm and we will be out of the hall completely by 10 pm
HELPERS! If you would like to volunteer to help either before or after the event (or both) please send a message to [email protected] soon. We will extend a small discount to people who sign up to help.
