Tea originated in ancient China, with myths dating its discovery to Emperor Shen Nung around 2737 BC. The first shipments were bought to Europe in the early 1600s, rapidly becoming a favourite with the aristocracy. Tea consumption skyrocketed in the 18th century leading to the social tradition of Afternoon Tea in the 1840s.
Continue this historical tradition with afternoon tea with a Regency period theme in Grade II* Upton House, Regency fancy dress optional but encouraged! Afternoon tea includes scones, finger sandwiches, sweet treats and a selection of hot drinks and is completed with amazing cake towers. Other beverages, such as prosecco, soft drinks and hot chocolate will be on sale on the day.
