About this Event
Communion sabbatical guest, the Rt. Rev. Rose Okeno, Diocese of Butere, Anglican Church of Kenya, will present on the work of African Institute for Contemporary Mission and Research (AICMAR) and her own projects. Among these is "unboxing the law: unmuting the silence," which seeks to address the Church's silence amidst many injustices in Kenya. AICMAR works for the advancement of Christian faith through education, research, and publishing suitable materials, as well as addressing economic problems in Kenya and the resulting issues.
Bp. Rose Okeno is VTS' first sabbatical guest of 2025. She is the second woman bishop in the Anglican Church of Kenya, and the first full bishop in the church. She was consecrated September 12, 2021 after 20 years of service. Bp. Rose is one of the “Africa 6,” 6 trailblazing women bishops in Africa, who met in January 2024 to discuss “Christian Leadership in the 21st Century,” a public panel discussion. It can be found here. Bp. Rose has worked to protect and advocate for women and children especially in her time as bishop of Butere.
