Oct. 15-- Dynamics of the Journey: Refugee Routes and Risks
Oct. 22-- Arrival: Acceptance? Rejection? Regret?
Oct. 29-- Seeking Better Lives in the United States

Did you know that 108.4 million people worldwide are currently forcibly displaced by violence in their countries, according to a report of the U.N. High Commission on Refugees? The number of economic migrants, including those forced to leave their countries because of climate change, is in the hundreds of millions.

Judy Manton will present the international phenomenon of people on the move worldwide using photos and video clips from numerous sources on the internet in addition to her own experiences as an ESL teacher for many years. Do you want to know more about the immigrants who settle amongst us – what are their challenges? Are they warmly received or faced with prejudice? How do they find jobs and establish friendship/ support groups? These topics will also be covered.

Speaker Judy Manton is a world traveler and ESL teacher. She taught English-teaching methods to English teachers for over 6 years in China and also several summers In Peru, Myanmar and Cambodia. At Fairleigh Dickinson University for 28 years she taught Cross-Cultural Perspectives as an adjunct professor. Numerous times she shared her home in Tenafly with refugees and immigrants.
