About this Event

Reframing Resilience

Over the last decade, the construction industry has made significant strides in low-carbon innovations, which are translating into meaningful progress towards achieving Net Zero. While there’s still much to do to meet these targets, in 2026 we need to set our sights beyond carbon neutrality and shift our practice towards resilience, creating buildings and places that adapt, evolve and contribute positively to their surroundings.

In this series of events hosted by Heyne Tillett Steel in Manchester, we investigate the opportunities and challenges involved in moving beyond sustainable design and envisage what a resilient future could look like for UK cities. Across three sessions, we’ll explore these themes at different scales, presenting the latest research and explorations, accompanied by practical examples and insightful discussion from industry experts.

Session 1: Buildings

How do we make the most of the opportunities within Manchester’s existing building stock? Through market analysis and live case studies, this session will explore how deep retrofit can not only improve a building’s structure, services and fabric but contribute wider benefits to wellbeing, biodiversity and local economies.
