About this Event
Have you ever wondered whether a movie you are watching was filmed in San Francisco or the Bay Area? More than 600 movies, from blockbuster features to lesser-known indies, have been entirely or partially set in the region since 1927, when talkies made their debut.
Historian Christopher Pollock will tell stories behind the films and about the sites used. He'll also highlights actors, directors and technical staff who originated from the Bay Area or have come to call it home.
Using a broad cross-section of film genres speaker Pollock will explore the role of film as an unintended but fortunate benefit to the preservation community. He will talk about how some on-location movies have become a record of places that have been lost due to well-meaning redevelopment, neglect, demolition, fire, or have otherwise disappeared.
