Reel Injun is a powerful documentary that explores the history of Indigenous representation in film and the stereotypes that Hollywood helped create and reinforce. Through archival footage, film clips, interviews, and director Neil Diamond’s personal journey, the documentary examines how these portrayals shaped public perceptions of Indigenous peoples and continue to influence popular culture today.

Directed by Catherine Bainbridge, Jeremiah Hayes, and Neil Diamond, Reel Injun invites audiences to look critically at the familiar images of “Indians” in Western films while centring Indigenous voices, experiences, humour, and perspectives.

Following the screening, guests are invited to stay for a panel discussion exploring how film has shaped Canadians’ views of Indigenous people.
