With fall right around the corner, what better way to celebrate than by making your own Halloween print? Join us for a full day delving into this fun medium.Printmaking is an artform that lets artists create multiples of their work and has existed before laser printers or even the printing press. In this special expanded printmaking class, we will experiment with a small sample piece before students dive into the main project. There will be instruction in the morning with a lunch break before we get into the finale stages of making the cat and pumpkin image, (We will have a 30 minute break, so feel free to bring a sack lunch). This will give everyone, beginners and veterans alike, more time to get used to carving and the printing process. More specifically, students will learn about the reductive process which allows multiple colors to be printed from a single block. Students will have their choice of using wood or linoleum for their blocks. We will focus on hand printing techniques and using registration tabs to keep the layers of color aligned. All materials and tools will be provided for the sample project and the cat with pumpkin print.
This class is appropriate for ages 14+
