Our New York group had so much fun last year that we need to do it again! We will once again park at Redstone Greensburg, departing on Wednesday, November 19th. We will shuttle over to the train station for an 8 am departure. After our relaxing train ride we’ll arrive in the city at about 5 pm, and make the easy walk to this year’s hotel, the Crowne Plaza on 36th in Midtown Manhattan. As with most NYC hotels, breakfast is not included. There are many bagel shops, bakeries, and diners in the area though! Wednesday evening will be free to spend on your own with lots of restaurants in the area.
While we do have some included and optional group activities planned, you will have lots of time to make your own plans and explore on your own. By going a week later this year, we anticipate that the holiday windows, decorations, and markets will be in full swing!
On Thursday, November 20th we will offer an optional group excursion to the exterior of the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Lisa will lead participants to the ferry terminal and provide instructions for getting back to the hotel/Times Square area. Anticipated price of this optional excursion is about $30 per person. Thursday evening, we will enjoy a group dinner (location tbd) and then get into the holiday spirit by attending the Rockettes Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall. This dinner and show are included in the base price of your trip.
On Friday, November 21st we will offer an optional group excursion to Little Italy. Lisa will lead us on a walk around the neighborhood and you’ll enjoy some tasting samples of the best pizza, cannoli, and donuts in the area. Then we will go on a candlelight tour of the catacombs under the Old St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Cost for the catacomb tour is expected to be $38 and each participant is asked to pitch in an additional $5 to cover the costs of the tastings during our walkabout.
On Friday evening we will offer a second optional dinner and a show for those who wish to participate. We anticipate that the show will be the new musical adaptation of the classic Great Gatsby, a hit new show. Price for dinner and the show ticket is anticipated to be $140 per person.
Alas, on Saturday morning it is time to pack up and head home. Our return train leaves at about 11 am, arriving in Greensburg at 7 pm. We will then shuttle back to Redstone to get our vehicles.
Prices for this trip including Amtrak ticket, hotel, Rockettes, and one dinner will be as follows:
Single: $1025
Per person in a double room: $700 (King and two bedded rooms are available)
Per person in a triple room: $575 (Two bedded rooms)
Per person in a quad room: $500 (Two bedded rooms)

Friday Little Italy Walkabout: $43
Dinner & a Show on Friday Night: $140
A $100 deposit is required to hold your spot. Trip must be paid in full by October 18th. If you would like to pay for your trip in installments we can set up an EZ Pay plan for you with 1/3 of the balance due by July 18th, the second 1/3 due by September 18th, and the final due by October 18th. If you have concerns about your health or the health of a family member that might require you to cancel at the last minute, we encourage you to consider travel insurance. For this trip, the price of insurance for a 72-year-old would be approximately $75 and would provide full reimbursement for illness, death in the immediate family, change of work requirements, etc.
Participants in this trip must be able to go up 3 fairly steep steps to board and leave the train, and manage their suitcase while walking about 5 blocks to the hotel in NYC. We encourage packing in a wheeled bag to make that easier. You may also bring a personal item, purse, backpack, etc. with you on the train.
