Gabriella Smith’s "Rust" opens the concert with an exhilarating celebration of nature’s resilience and the regenerative power of the earth. Next, lose yourself in the lush romanticism of Hector Berlioz’s "Les Nuits d’été" (Summer Nights), a stunning song cycle that traces love’s journey through longing, loss, and ultimate peace, expertly sung by mezzo-soprano Sarah Nordin. The evening culminates in the triumphant radiance of Stravinsky’s "Firebird Suite", where darkness is vanquished and new life bursts forth in one of the most thrilling finales in all of classical music.
