The Red Lantern City Night Market is a free, family-friendly cultural festival held in St. Louis’ Central West End, created to bring the community together through food, art, music, and shared cultural experiences. Inspired by traditional Asian night markets, the festival transforms the street into a vibrant open-air celebration filled with chef-driven cuisine, artisan vendors, live performances, interactive cultural activities, and the energy of thousands gathering under the glow of lantern light.
Founded in 2021 by Chef Heidi Skye Hamamura of Taberu in support of the Japan America Society of St. Louis, the market later joined forces with Chef Mike Ly of Saigon Cafe along with several of St. Louis’ leading Asian nonprofit organizations. Together, they created a festival that celebrates the richness of Asian culture while uplifting local artists, small businesses, chefs, and entrepreneurs throughout the city.
Made possible through the support of Euclid South Community Improvement District and Park Central Development, Red Lantern was built by chefs, for small businesses, with the vision of creating a space where culture, community, and creativity could thrive together. Proudly recognized as the first Asian night market in St. Louis, the event has grown from just over 1,000 attendees in its first year to more than 15,000 guests annually, continuing to grow larger each year.
