VANCOUVER, B.C. — October 26, 2026 — Paige 18 Productions, founded by producer Rhonda Dent, is thrilled to present John Logan’s masterfully taut, visceral two-hander, RED.
Running for a strictly limited engagement of just six performances from Tuesday, December 8 to Saturday, December 12, 2026, this explosive production will transform the intimate space at The Nest on Granville Island into a pressure-cooker of artistic conflict.
Directed by the acclaimed Jennifer Copping, RED throws audiences directly into the fierce, electric clash between master abstract expressionist painter Mark Rothko and his sharp, youthful new assistant, Ken. Set in the late 1950s and based on historical events, the narrative follows Rothko at the pinnacle of his career as he struggles to complete a massive, high-profile commission for New York City’s legendary Four Seasons Restaurant.
The production stars Rob LaBelle as the formidable, agonizing Mark Rothko and Mozi Mayaleh as his observant assistant, Ken. As the two men stretch canvas and mix paint, they engage in a relentless, fast-paced battle over power, art, and control. It is a play with no filler—just a raw, intellectual showdown that challenges the ultimate questions of what it takes to create art and what its role should be in the world.
“Bringing RED to Granville Island with this particular creative team allows us to explore the volatile, ever-changing dynamic between a creator and their work on an incredibly intimate scale,” says producer Rhonda Dent of Paige 18 Productions. “With only six shows scheduled, once it's gone, it's gone. We want audiences to feel the literal heat, friction, and passion of this studio space up close.”
