Recordings in Colour by Alexandra Glew brings together a series of 14 expressive abstract works, recordings of the sensory experience of moving through local landscapes—its shifting colours, fleeting weather, sounds and the quiet rhythms that shaped my connection to place.

Using layered washes of pastel tones, flashes of colour, and repeated gestural marks, the paintings evoke the feeling of a moment caught in transition. Some elements of expressive marks are made to disrupt areas, in response to endless changes and emotions felt, and connections made.

Developed through walking and close engagement with the natural environment, each piece functions as a kind of intuitive, visual field recording. Rather than depicting landscape directly, the works translate sensations—air moving across the skin, the pulse of footsteps, the melodic fragments of birdsong, plants moving, hands holding—into texture and colour. Their abstract language invites viewers to enter through colour to an internal feeling.

The exhibition celebrates slowness, attention, and the subtle emotional aspects found in everyday kind of encounters with nature. Through repetition, mark‑making, and delicate layering, the paintings create a contemporary meditation on connection, movement, and the places we experience and explore, alone and together.
