About this Event
Join The Africana Institute for a special conversation on community safety, violence prevention, and policy solutions as part of the Garvey/Nkrumah Lecture Series and our 25th Anniversary Celebration.
The event will feature Senator Allan Bernard (Parliament of Jamaica)—scholar, educator, and grassroots advocate—who will share insights on the role of public policy and community partnerships in addressing violence and building safer communities.
Following the keynote, a discussion will be led by panelists:
- Dr. Janice Johnson Dias, Professor, John Jay College of Criminal Justice
- LaKeesha Eure, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety, City of Newark
Together, they will explore strategies for strengthening collaboration between communities, policymakers, and public institutions.
