During Native American Heritage Month (November), NHSM, under the esteemed guidance of Master Teaching Artist and polymath Peter Brooks, will shine a spotlight on indigenous stories, legends, and histories that have often been marginalized or overlooked.Learn the incredible history of the Seneca leader Jigonhsasee, known as the “Mother of Nations,” who used the environment itself to foster peace amongst five warring nations.
Experience something of the origins of the “Great Law of Peace” which was the natural government prior to colonization.
Delve into some of the local history of the Piscataway people, their traditional lands, their cultural practices, and their relationship with other Eastern Woodlands tribes.
Peter Brooks is a highly accomplished teaching artist and filmmaker who has dedicated his career to preserving and celebrating the ancestral wisdom of Native American cultures and people. By demonstrating, with deep reverence for these time-honored practices, he invites participants to embark on a transformative journey, connecting with the profound teachings and rhythms that have been echoed through these lands for generations.
Spaces are limited. Program is offered twice during the month of November – November 17 and November 24.
