About this Event

Escape tourist agencies and discover Recoleta and its cemetery from an anthropological point of view. Do not expect to just walk and listen: be prepared to talk, ask questions, and discuss the past, present, and future of the neighborhood with the most mansions and palaces in town.

Beginning at the Plaza Gral. San Martín and ending at Recoleta Cemetery, this walk offers you the chance to explore the north part of this beautiful city through its historical past in an attempt to understand its present.

Why was Buenos Aires called the ‘Paris of South America’? Who ‘inhabits’ the Recoleta Cemetery, and what mysteries does it contain? What was the ‘Belle Époque,’ and how did it change the city? What was the role of large landowners in the development of the country? Was Argentina really a global economic power? These are just some of the many questions we will try to answer on our walk through the most aristocratic part of town.

Itinerary: General San Martín Plaza – Retiro Train Station – British Tower – Santísimo Sacramento Church – Kavanagh Building – San Martín Palace (former Anchorena Palace) – Arroyo St. – Israel Embassy Memorial – France Embassy – Brazil Embassy – Recoleta Cemetery

This activity includes the cemetery, but entering it is optional. Tickets are not included and can be purchased at the entrance or online CLICK HERE.
