Session Description: This workshop aims to equip mental health professionals with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to effectively support survivors of sexual violence and human trafficking. Through interactive activities, content and resource sharing, participants will gain an understanding of the dynamics, risk factors, and indicators of these issues, along with relevant legal and ethical considerations. Additionally, participants will learn to foster empathy and cultural competence, while challenging stigma and biases, and incorporating survivor-centered approaches and victim advocacy. 

Workshop Level: Intermediate

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this presentation, the participant will be able to:

  • Discuss the definitions, types, and prevalence of sexual violence and human trafficking. 
  • Analyze misconceptions and biases about sexual violence and trafficking survivors. 
  • Describe understanding of the unique experiences of survivors from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and gender backgrounds. 
  • Identify risk factors and vulnerabilities that contribute to victimization, and behavioral, emotional, and physical indicators of sexual violence and trafficking survivors. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to build trust and create safe spaces for survivors to disclose their experiences. 
  • List the relevant laws, reporting requirements, and ethical considerations for mental health professionals 
  • Apply survivor-centered approaches and advocate for victim rights.

Presenter Bio: Angeles Evans, TurnAround Inc.

Angeles Evans is a facilitator and trainer with 15+ years of experience in the preventive education field, specializing in subject matters that range from sexual and intimate partner violence, child abuse to intersectionality. Angeles has also honed her advocacy skills through coalition building, legislative awareness programming, and professional and youth leadership development, during her work with survivors of abuse, and those who have experienced multi-layered trauma and housing instability.

Angeles holds a bachelor’s in social work from Morgan State University and currently serves as Senior Manager of Community Engagement and Training at TurnAround, Inc., a Baltimore-based rape crisis center. Where she has spearheaded key projects like TurnAround’s School Response Toolkit set to launch in June 2025. Along with her contributions of activating 30+ departmental and agency level partnerships that have increased survivor engagement and elevated survivor-centered awareness programming.

Angeles aims to focus her work on implementing culturally competent, preventive strategies and education, and hopes to equip communities with the knowledge and tools to identify their own methods of healing and empower them to share their stories. Additionally, last year, Angeles was recognized as one of 30 Baltimore ‘Gamechangers’ by Baltimore Magazine and was also awarded the 2024 Domestic Violence Advocate Award by the Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence where her love and dedication to serving survivors were highlighted at both ceremonies.


Workshop registrants will receive a code prior to the webinar to log on to Zoom and participate in the online session.


IMPORTANT: Attendance will be monitored. Participants must be logged on to the meeting by the workshop start time and participate in the entire event in order to earn CE credit.



Pro Bono Counseling is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. Pro Bono Counseling maintains responsibility for this program and its content. The Maryland Boards of Social Work Examiners and Professional Counselors and Therapists certify that this program meets the criteria for two (2) credit hours of continuing education for social workers (Category 1 ), professional counselors, and therapists (Category A - pending) licensed in Maryland.


CE credit is granted to participants with documented attendance at individual workshops. Attendance is monitored. Credit will not be granted to registrants who log on late or depart early from a session. It is the responsibility of registrants to comply with these requirements.
