Learn Michigan Mental Health Code requirements, recipient rights, abuse prevention, confidentiality, reporting, and rights-centered care.
About this Event

This training provides staff with a practical understanding of their responsibilities under the Michigan Mental Health Code to protect, promote, and uphold the rights of individuals receiving services. Participants will explore key recipient rights principles, including dignity and respect, informed consent, confidentiality, freedom from abuse and neglect, and the obligation to promptly report suspected rights violations. Through real-world examples, discussion, and scenario-based learning, staff will develop the skills to recognize potential rights concerns, respond appropriately, and foster a culture of accountability and person-centered care. Upon completion, participants will be better equipped to support a safe, respectful, and rights-focused environment while maintaining compliance with agency policies and state requirements. Participants will be able to:

  • Describe the fundamental recipient rights outlined in the Michigan Mental Health Code, including dignity, respect, confidentiality, and informed consent.
  • Recognize situations that may constitute abuse, neglect, or other rights violations in mental health service settings.
  • Explain the required reporting procedures for potential rights violations in accordance with agency policy and state law.

This is a four hour training conducted in the NeMCMHA Board Room. Check in at reception 15 minutes prior to training start time.
