Recent & Remarkable Book Club: "A Children's Bible" by Lydia Millet
About this Event
The Recent & Remarkable Book Club is devoted to reading modern literary fiction worth talking about. From award winners and international sensations to cult favorites and future classics, we'll explore some of the most compelling books of the past decade.
This month, we’re reading A Children's Bible by Lydia Millet — a darkly funny, eerily prescient novel that follows a group of children and their self-absorbed parents on a summer vacation as an environmental catastrophe unfolds around them. As a devastating storm approaches and the adults prove increasingly incapable of responding to the crisis, the children are left to navigate a rapidly changing world on their own. Blending satire, biblical allusion, climate fiction, and coming-of-age storytelling, Millet's National Book Award finalist explores responsibility, resilience, and what we owe future generations with wit, urgency, and surprising tenderness.
We will meet in person in the loft at our store at The Mark, 117 S. Pineapple Ave. The book club is $15.95, which includes a copy of A Children's Bible to be picked up at Bookstore1 any time before our meeting.
Lydia Millet is the author of A Children’s Bible, a finalist for the National Book Award and a New York Times “10 Best Books” of the year. Her first collection of short fiction, Love in Infant Monkeys, was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. She works at the Center for Biological Diversity and lives outside Tucson, Arizona.
