Rebuilding a Memory
About this Event
In 2008, Indian photographer Vicky Roy was selected by the US based Maybach Foundation for a rare commission: to document the reconstruction of the World Trade Center in New York. As part of the commission, he trained at the International Center of Photography in New York.
The photographs in this exhibition are drawn from that project, a ground level record of a site being rebuilt.
Twenty five years after September 11, 2001, Viya Contemporary is honored to present this unique body of work, marking the remembrance not through the moment of loss, but through the long, quiet work of what came after.
Roy's practice has since taken him to the Kochi Muziris Biennale, the Houston FotoFest Biennial, and solo exhibitions across India, the US, and Europe. He was named Forbes Asia's 30 Under 30 and received the MIT Media Lab Fellowship in 2014. This is his second exhibition with Viya Contemporary.
