WHO WE ARE

Rebelle Zine is a creative collective based in Toronto, Canada. Our multi-platform publication highlights diverse women and queer artists. Find us at rebellezine.com and @rebellezine (Instagram/TikTok).

In healthy forest ecosystems, trees exist in a cooperative relationship with each other, sharing nutrients and information through their roots. Rebelle Zine Issue 07: [UP]ROOT aims to dig deep and explore how we are not so different from the trees.

This collection of articles and artistic works focuses on communities, knowledge, and traditions that have been uprooted. It highlights what happens when they are replanted, and the inspiring ways that folks are using learnings from generations passed to inform our future. [UP]ROOT serves to remind us that when we nurture our relationships with each other and the earth, we are all so much richer for it.

The [UP]ROOT Launch Party is a celebration of Rebelle Zine’s seventh issue release — and we want you to be there! We are planning to host a marketplace and cultural exchange, with performances, galleries, interactive exhibits and pop-ups – telling the stories of identity and cultural roots here in Toronto.

We invite you to come in culture-inspired attire or earthy tones!

When? Saturday, Feb 8 from 3:30-6:30pm

Where? Junto Studio (915 Dupont St, Unit #202), Toronto

What else can you look forward to?

• Be the first to get your hands on a copy of Issue 07: [UP]ROOT
• Light refreshments are included with your ticket. Bar will also be available to purchase drinks.
• Interactive exhibits, including a community art piece to represent the Rebelle community: We ask that you please bring a piece (or many pieces!) that represent your identity that you don’t mind contributing to the artwork. This could be a flag, patch, stickers, fabric scraps, magazine cuttings, a handwritten note, postcard, drawing, photographs, candy wrappers, stamps, etc. Think of it of a junk journal representing the Rebelle community!
• Meet like-minded creatives and make new friends
• A chance to dress up and take cute photos
• A raffle ticket included with your ticket to win a Rebelle Zine prize pack
• And more!

Junto is a women, POC, queer-owned photography and event studio run by partners Theresa and Rana. Modern, artsy and inviting, their space is truly like no other.
