About this Event
More about the book:
Sarah joined Facebook as a young New Zealand diplomat who believed the platform could genuinely change the world for the better. Seven years later, having risen to Director of Global Public Policy, she had seen enough to know the truth was something else entirely. From private jets and meetings with world leaders to Facebook's response to the Rohingya genocide and Mark Zuckerberg's alleged efforts to censor content for the Chinese market, this is a sharply funny, deeply unsettling account of what it looks like when a handful of people hold the world carelessly in their hands.
Why we chose it: "Darkly funny and genuinely shocking: an ugly, detailed portrait of one of the most powerful companies in the world." - Jennifer Szalai, The New York Times
Inspired by our monthly non-fiction reads, our mix of part cocktail party, part creative classroom is a recipe that builds your reading habit while connecting with like minded people.

Your hosts for the evening
Sruthi Ravi
Sruthi spent a lot of time trying to find the right book club before RBC came along. She loves watching cricket, curling up with a good book, and to travel the world.
Dreamer, bookworm and feminist, Sruthi loves to meet new people, and learn more about the world we live in.
Most impactful RBC moment: "The most impactful book have been the ones that have challenged me to look at how I live my life. These books empowered me to make changes to my sleep habits, and change my actions as a consumer, as a friend/partner and as a member of society."
Emma Noller
Emma is a neuro-spicy, chaotic good character who has been teaching for the past 8 years. A former London RBC member, she is so excited to be a part of bringing this amazing experience to Sydney. She can’t wait to reconnect with the amazing people and opportunities that RBC is known for.
She loves travel, connecting with people and thinks that learning is a life-long journey. Why not do it in the most creative ways you can!
Most impactful RBC moment: "Discussing Lost Connections with a psychologist who changed our point of view. She did this by disagreeing with what the author was saying about reliance on Medic*tion. It was a lens I hadn’t looked through reading the book; this actually started my journey on learning more about my ADHD, how my brain can work for me and finding the support networks I needed to be the most efficient and creative I could be."
