About this Event
The Rebecca Mac String Band
Join us for an unforgettable evening at BackRoom Boston venue of The Boston Synagogue as the Rebecca Mac String Band celebrates the debut release of their highly anticipated album, Night Bird. Led by the visionary Boston-based violinist Rebecca Mac (of the award-winning klezmer ensemble Mamaliga), this ensemble is one of the most electrifying new groups on the klezmer scene today. In Night Bird, Rebecca explores the deep connections between her Ashkenazi Jewish heritage and the traditional folk music of Eastern Europe, creating a sound that is simultaneously haunting, joyful, and whimsical. Experience an evening of intricate, off-beat arrangements of original fiddle tunes that breathe new life into centuries-old traditions. Whether you are a lifelong klezmer fan or new to the genre, this concert promises a refreshingly modern take on the rich soundscapes of the Old World.

About Rebecca Mac
Rebecca Mac is Boston-based violinist and violist, regularly performing in various ensembles including Mamaliga, a contemporary quartet performing original Klezmer and Eastern-European folk inspired compositions, Zol Zayn, a klezmer dance-band, and Zunroyz, a trio un-earthing string repertoire from the Jewish music archives. Mac can also be found performing on the Turkish yali tanbur. Mac has performed nationally and internationally at reknowned music festivals including KlezKanada, Yiddish Summer Weimar and Yiddish New York. Mac is a 2022-24 grant recipient of the Massachusetts Cultural Council’s Traditional Arts Apprenticeship program, through which she is exploring the connections between Greek, Turkish and Jewish music with Beth Bahia Cohen.
