About this Event
The U.S. Supreme Court has never played a bigger role in shaping American life. Once deemed the “least dangerous branch,” the Court now stands at the center of today’s most pressing political and social debates.
Join Pioneer Public Interest Law Center on Monday, March 3, 2025, for an engaging discussion with constitutional law experts—Professor Kent Greenfield of BC Law, and Professor Renee Landers of Suffolk University Law School—as they analyze the most significant cases of the 2024-2025 term. This program will provide expert insights into cases that could redefine constitutional law, with potential topics of discussion including:
- Can a state prohibit doctors from treating children and young people who identify as a gender other than the one to which they were assigned at birth?
- Is the U.S. permitted to shut down a social media platform such as TikTok based on concerns that the platform is foreign-owned by a potential US adversary?
- May a state decide that a particular religious endeavor, in this case, Wisconsin Catholic Charities, is not a “typical historic religious activity” and, therefore, not eligible for certain critical government benefits.
- As to the Second Amendment and gun violence, the Court will decide whether the ATF can regulate “ghost guns” and whether Smith & Wesson can be held liable for gun violence in Mexico.
- In the wake of the abandonment of Chevron deference in 2024, how must federal courts consider rulings from the FDA on health-sensitive rulings, such as limits on the use of e-cigarettes with fruity flavors favored by children?
- In a major civil rights case, are plaintiffs required to exhaust administrative remedies before suing the government for section 1983 claims?
Don't miss your chance to participate in this timely and engaging discussion of the legal decisions shaping our nation’s future.
